Losing weight doesn’t need to be complicated. Losing weight doesn’t need to take forever.
When you focus on the right areas and you put the right improvements in place there’s no reason why you can’t lose weight and keep on losing it.
On the other hand, if you are struggling to lose weight, even though you may be trying hard and putting in plenty of time and effort, then you MUST improve in one or more of these 3 key areas.
Otherwise you will always struggle to lose weight and it will be much harder to keep it off.
So let’s take a look at the 3 key areas to losing weight so that you can identify what’s holding you back and where you need to improve to get better weight loss results…
Diet and nutrition
This is the area that most people focus on first when trying to lose weight. They don’t want to put time and effort into exercise and they feel that a change in their diet would be the easiest way to lose weight.
The problem with only using diet is that your body loses weight from muscle as well as fat. And because muscle burns plenty of calories this means that the more weight you lose the fewer calories you need to consume to lose weight.
The result is that it becomes harder and harder to lose weight, and then it becomes a real struggle to maintain your weight. Who wants to be stuck on a low calorie diet for the rest of their life?
So that’s when people return to more normal eating habits and the weight quickly piles back on.
The much better way is to develop healthy eating habits that can be maintained for years and for the rest of your life. That way you can lose weight with your diet while also being able to maintain your results.
Plus, if you want to feel great, have more energy, and get the best out of yourself, then you need a healthy diet. If you feed yourself rubbish then guess what? Your body and mind will produce rubbish.
You also need the next key to losing weight…
One of the main benefits of exercise is that it challenges your muscles. Therefore, your body will repair these muscles and try to maintain your muscle mass so that you can keep performing the exercise.
The great thing about this is that you are now able to lose weight from fat, rather than fat and muscle. So when you lose weight your body will keep burning plenty of calories which makes it much easier to keep losing weight and then maintain your weight.
Then there’s the calories that your exercise burns which helps with weight loss. Plus there are many other benefits such as improved health and fitness, a better looking body, more energy, and overall much better physical and mental health.
Many people find exercise hard or time consuming so they only focus on their diet and get poor weight loss results. However, the benefits of exercise far, far outweigh any effort or time you need to put into it.
Other people don’t want to change their diet so they only focus on exercise. They want to keep the same rubbish diet and hope that exercise alone will lose all their weight.
The problem here is that you would need to be exercising at a high level to overcome poor eating habits or excess eating.
The most efficient and effective way to lose weight and then be able to keep it off is through a combination of healthy eating and quality exercise.
Now you need the most important key to losing weight…
Motivation and mindset
Motivation and mindset is the missing link for most people. It’s the biggest factor that is keeping them from losing weight.
So why do I say that motivation and mindset is the most important key in helping you lose weight?
Why do I say that it’s even more important than your diet or your exercise?
The reason is because motivation and mindset come first. Without the right motivation and the right mindset you will NEVER do the things that will make you lose weight. In fact you’ll keep doing the wrong things that stop you from ever being successful.
Also think about this…
What use would it be if you knew every single thing there is to know about diet and exercise if you can’t bring yourself to put improvements in place and then maintain them over the long term?
All the knowledge in the world wouldn’t help you!
For example, one of my doctors is severely overweight and unhealthy. She may have a degree, know how to live healthily, and have years of experience, but she clearly isn’t doing it.
So what will the result be if she doesn’t improve her motivation and mindset?
A lower quality life, a lifetime of poor health, and then probably an early death. Would you like that to be you?
Overall it’s important to remember that your mental approach comes first. That then allows you to do the right things with your diet and exercise that help you lose weight.
